Friday, December 10 - Day 12
Many of you have been wondering where the updates have gone. Well, with the family in for the weekend and to see how the book is printed I didn't have time until yesterday to get to anything. Then I discovered that all of these images we have shot for these web pages had overwhelmed my laptop so I had to bring in my external harddrive to transfer 20GB of images taken while here. So I have finally cleared space and am ready to move ahead.

We start on Friday with the tour of the Stinehour Press by the Chicago contingent. Everyone at The Stinehour Press welcomed our group in and were more than happy to show them the process and art of making a book.

The day, of course, started with another coffee spill, this time my fault, but since it is good luck, who cared? John stuck a shot of the "Big Rig" and me on the sign, with the license plate BAB - if you can't figure that out you haven't been reading carefully enough!
The groups first look at the pages - much impressed! Then a tour and explanation of the presses.
Sandy overlooking a few pages. John and I clowning around.
The first, ok, maybe the 3rd, but the first I saw of the pages wrapped for transfer to the bindery in Phoenix. And the traditional group photo among some of the pages. (Photo courtesy Peter Russell)
While doing the tour we also had to stop and check blues, the last step before making the plates for the presses.
Another group photo by the OK booth and me explaining how we look at press pages and then adjust colors by the inch.
We end the day with Terri in the film and plate room for an explanation of how they take the scans and convert them to film and then the press plates. Everyone really enjoyed being able to see the process, especially since they had been involved with the making of the book for about 4 years now! Another great day at The Stinehour Press!
